Tea Tasting: February 20, 2010

Katrina is getting ready to make Matcha.  This is the tea used in the Japanese Tea Ceremony.  It is a powdered green tea that is whisked with hot water to make a frothy thick tea.  Since you are consuming the whole leaf, it is pretty strong.

Katrina also demonstrated the gongfu (or chinese) tea ceremony.  Here she is pouring the second steeping of tea into a aroma cup.  The first steeping was discarded as it was just to wake up the tea leaves.  The second steeping is poured into and then out of the aroma cup.  The cup is passed around so that we can enjoy the scent of the tea.  The third steeping was our first taste of the oolong tea.

Teapots:

Here are some of the teapots in progress.  In the foreground are calipers for measuring lid sizes and teapot strainers that will hopefully fit in the finished teapots.
